The Short History of Crocs

Croc shoes, the world-renowned, brightly colored phenomenon that originated from a pair of plastic spa shoes, have certainly come a long way! The first manufacturing plant, and the current Crocs headquarters, is located in Boulder, Colorado. However, the Crocs company has rapidly branched out into a worldwide franchise with operating companies in Italy, China, Florida, and Mexico. It all started when George Boedecker took his idea and turned it into 200 pairs of the first Croc shoes, debuting them at a boat show in Ft. Lauderdale. After selling out that day, he realized he had something with a whole lot of potential.

The main selling point for the Croc shoes was the "croslite" material that they were made from, which molded to the wearers foot and provided comfort and multiple orthopedic benefits. Foam Creations, the company that developed and produced croslite, was sold to Crocs in 2004-along with the rights to the croslite material. That was the first of many additions to the company. Next came the addition of Jibbitz in 2006, and a whole new category of Crocs opened up. Jibbitz manufactures shoe accessories, little designs that pop in and out of the ventilation ports in Crocs shoes. This brought another wave of fans to the Crocs franchise, and it continued to grow. In 2007 came the additions of Bite Footware and Ocean Minded, golf shoe and sandal manufactures respectively. Currently, the 5,300 employee team at Crocs manufactures a vast variety of shoe styles, along with accessories and apparel, including a line of purses! To date, the company's operating budget sits somewhere around 168.2 million dollars.

The amazing success of Croc shoes is a testimony to a great design combined with savvy entrepreneurship-the entrepreneurship of George B. Boedecker. Boedecker was involved in business ownership and management for most of his working life. He started out working for Dominos, where he owned and operated over 100 franchises. From there he founded Oregon Food Concepts, a company that encompasses the states of Washington and Oregon, owning and operating multiple Quiznos franchises. He also worked for Quiznos in Canada, where he served as Chief Operating Officer of International Sales and Operations and Executive Vice President from 1996 to February of 2002. That was when he began serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Crocs, which he did until 2006. Currently, he works as the Director of the Anthony H. Kruse Foundation, a company whose focus is on helping others to become entrepreneurs themselves.

Croc shoes are a unique fashion piece-they are famous for their comfort rather than their looks. Interestingly, there are equally heated opinions both in support of and against Croc shoes, but those who actually take the time to try them out are never disappointed.

The Ultimate Boot Camp Circuit Workout For Rapid Fat Loss Results

Ask yourself, what's your most effective workout training program? Has it provided you with the results that you're looking for? Has it made a difference in your life? Are you getting bored because it seems you're doing the same exercises over and over again?

Good questions, but possibly even harder to answer. You see, up to this point in the exercise world, most of the structured and resistance based programs you've heard about and maybe even followed stress that it's the straight set formula that will give you better results.

You know the straight set formula. You select one exercise, complete 15 repetitions, and do this 3 times. Oh, and of course you rest for a few minutes between each set. Sadly this is the training that's happily being promoted by most major magazines as well as fitness trainers alike. BORRRING.

For a better, faster, easier more complete way of blasting unwanted body fat as well as toning your sleek, tight muscles you'll want to avoid this traditional way of thinking.

You'll need to select a training method that is both intense as well as total body, thereby working your entire body and all the muscles within simultaneously. Choosing to use shorter rest periods between each of your exercises will also be important in helping keep your heart rate as well as your metabolism elevated throughout your workout. And in a positive group atmosphere, such as in a structured boot camp, you'll find this workout style works best.

Circuit training that's worked into a boot camp style training program solves this issue.

Circuit training allows each individual camper to perform each exercise at his or her own comfortable pace as each exercise is prescribed a certain amount of time. Because each exercise is done for time, someone completely new to the program as well as someone who has already training in this manner will both succeed in getting a great workout because both will move at their own comfortable speed.

So, what's the main difference between this timed boot camp style of training and the straight set plan mentioned above? Why can't you achieve the results you want by doing it the old way? Look, although straight sets are very easy for people new to exercise to understand and formulate a workout program around, they are in essence spinning their fitness wheels. By doing things the old way, you're not ordering your exercises properly. You're not giving your body the best chance it has to burn off the most amount of fat and calories that you want it to. This is just not the way to go for someone who is really seriously committed to their health and fitness.

In the majority of the gyms, health clubs, and fitness centers alike, you'll most definitely see someone doing things the old way. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that after they get everything organized and complete their first set of 15 repetitions on whatever workout machine they are using they'll waste at the very least a few minutes watching the television, talking with friends, or lingering at the water fountain. This is not total body training being performed for it's best use. And in fact it's BORRRING.

Most people tend to take at least a moment or two between their workout sets, but in today's world that's not always the most practical approach. In addition to not providing the person with the proper workout routine and structure, this straight set theory makes each workout last the better part of an hour. This is not realistic for those people who demand quick results.

A better way is to devise your workout using the circuit training method mentioned above. When this is done, one total body exercise is performed, followed by a rest period for say 10-20 seconds, and then another total body exercise is completed followed by another rest. I like to perform these types of workouts with about 6 to 8 different exercises so as to keep the campers engaged in vigorous activity for about 2 to 3 minutes.

By exercising in this way members of the boot camp are allowing their body's to work different areas in a continuous total body motion always keeping their core engaged throughout each exercise.

The remarkable results these campers receive by training in this manner is nothing short of astounding. By training this way the body is able to recover only so much in that you're switching exercises and stressing different muscles. The intensity from one exercise to the next is still there so your always burning those unwanted calories.

The result then is improved stamina, both muscle and cardiovascular endurance, and fun allowing you to get more work done in far less time. The best results that we've found work the best is a circuit program that lasts from 30 to 45 minutes in length.

This is the core foundation for any structured fat loss program not to mention lean muscle gain from head to toe. Again the key is being able to create a workout environment specifically designed for fat loss with maximal intensity with each exercise movement. Circuit training provides this by completing a high volume of total body work to be done in the shortest amount of time possible. Each camper achieves their best results in maximizing fat loss and improving lean muscle gain.

Use this method then to get in the best shape possible and ditch the same old boring routine!

Converse High Tops - The Original and the Best

You might be interested to know that the Converse High Tops are the oldest, most popular best selling basketball shoe of all time. Sixty percent of Americans own or have owned at least one pair of these sneakers in their lifetime. I am guessing that percentage is not the number of people who have played basketball so people must buy them just for the enjoyment.

The Converse Rubber Corporation opened for business in 1908 and at that time made only galoshes and other work related seasonal rubber shoes. It was decided soon after that they wanted to keep their employees year round so they turned their attention to making athletic shoes.

The birth of the Converse High Tops

The sport of Basketball was gaining huge popularity at the time so the company developed a shoe that could be worn while playing the game. It took quite a bit of time and after many versions the first All Star basketball shoe was produced in 1917. It originally came in natural brown leather with black trim and at first sales were quite slow. In the 1920's the shoe was made in all black canvas or leather versions.

Converse High Tops were the first mass produced basketball shoe in North America and sales started to take off when Charles "Chuck" H. Taylor lent his name to the product. After many years of service to the Converse company his name was added to the emblem on the side of the All Star basketball Shoe. In the 1970's other shoes companies began to gain market dominance in the basketball arena.

Converse High Tops then became very popular with rock musicians, and others wore them for their distinctive looks, colors, and comfort and as an alternative to the high priced high performance shoes made by Nike and other companies. Converse responded by manufacturing chucks in hundreds of different variations that included prints, patterns, unusual colors, and special models for different age groups.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the Converse Company began to experience hard times and eventually had to file for bankruptcy in 2001. The brand was just to well established to abandon and the new ownership moved the manufacturing of the shoe to Asia. The brand was successfully re-established and the company was eventually bought out by their rival, Nike.

As of today more than 800,000,000 pairs of Converse High Tops have been sold. Unlike other sneakers that lose their popularity, these sneakers still remain fashionable. Converse All Star High Tops are over 75 years old and are still going strong! Since 1949, except for the addition of new colors, original "Chuck Taylors" have not changed one bit -- and I don't know about you but I like that!

The Author Glenn Smith enjoyed his experience of wearing his converse high tops for basketball in the seventies so much that he wants everyone to have this experience.
